Siemens to create 100 green jobs

Siemens is to create around 100 green jobs after it won a contract from SSE Renewables (SSER) to provide 68 wind turbines for the Scottish Griffin onshore wind power farm.

When completed in 2012, the site will produce more than 150MW of wind power in total, with each turbine creating 2.3MW of renewable energy.

"This follow-up order for the Griffin wind farm project from SSER underlines our leading position in the wind power market," commented Jens-Peter Saul, chief executive officer of Siemens Wind Power globally.

He added that 100 green jobs will be created by Siemens in order to meet the demand for the extra turbines.

Siemens has already been named as the provider of the wind turbines for SSER's wind farm project in Clyde, which has set a target of 350MW of wind energy to be produced.

Last month, Siemens won the contract to connect the Lincs offshore wind farm to the UK's National Grid.
