Google could create green jobs with new agreement

Google's decision to purchase clean energy from a US wind farm may help to protect and create green jobs.

The major corporation has signed a 20-year green power purchase agreement to buy clean energy from the NextEra Energy Resources Story County II facility in Iowa.

Urs Hoelzle, senior vice president of operations, wrote on the official Google blog that the wind farm's developer will now be able to fund new projects as a result of the deal with the search engine.

"Taking 114 megawatts of wind power off the market for so long means producers have the incentive and means to build more renewable energy capacity for other customers," he explained.

NextEra Energy Resources is one of the US' largest producers of clean energy and has 18,000 megawatts of generating capacity across its wind farms around North America.

This makes it the biggest producer of wind energy in the US, while the firm also operates solar and nuclear power plants.
